‘Tis the Season to Love Books

intro-santascastleWould you believe that the largest exhibit of animated Christmas characters in the United States is on display in this town of 12,000 people, in a library-turned-museum no less—a 112 year old historical building?

For the past 50 years Santa’s Castle has existed in Storm Lake, Iowa and this year they estimate 10,000 residents will tour the 150 exhibits on display between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

Better World Books has donated 5,000 books this year to be given as gifts to the visiting children (we have donated the past 2 years as well, growing the number each year). Economic hardships and unemployment here mean an estimated 30% of families will not be able to buy Christmas gifts for their children. I was advised by our host Ron Hott from Santa’s Castle that the books we have donated will be the only gifts that some children will receive.

How satisfying to know that Better World Books is playing an important part in the lives of these children to help brighten their Christmas season.
