Explore Camp Wonderopolis

intro-campwonderBased on research that suggests parents should work with children to offset summer “brain-drain” by engaging in small, individualized learning programs, we’ve partnered with National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) to bring the world Camp Wonderopolis™.

This online, free virtual summer camp allows kids, families, and summer programs to discover the possibilities and Wonder of summer camp at their own pace.

Questions like “Is Dry Ice Really Dry?” and “Why Does Gum Lose Its Flavor?” come equipped with explanations, vocabulary words, and easy, at-home experiments that allow for imaginative conversations and deeper exploration.

Camp Wonderopolis follows a new model this year, enabling programs, families, and individuals to customize their experience to their own particular needs. Campers will explore 42 individual lessons covering six branches of science and build their vocabulary, background knowledge, and literacy skills along the way.

Here are a few of the new features that have been added to Camp this year:

  • Campers will be able to set up their own Camp account with a unique username and avatar
  • There are six main areas of the Campgrounds, including:
    • Wonder Zoo (Zoology)
    • Wonder Amusement Park (Physics)
    • Wonder Woods (Biology)
    • Wonder Laboratory (Chemistry)
    • Wonder Dig Site (Geology)
    • Wonder Observatory (Astronomy)
  • For every Wonder a Camper masters, he or she will earn a collectible Wonder Card®
  • Campers can track their progress through Camp on their Camper dashboard, and Counselors can track the achievements of their troop by adding Campers to their dashboard
  • A new and improved Wonder Wall will let Campers share photos, videos, and posts about their Camp experiences
  • There will be contests and prizes for the most wonderful photos and videos shared by Campers (and their fearless leaders)

Camp officially opens June 16 and will be available all summer. All you need to sign up is an email address. Preregistration is now open, and full registrations will be taken throughout the summer. Sign up today at wonderopolis.org/camp.

(Oh, and parents — Camp Wonderopolis isn’t just for teachers and students. We’ll let you sign up, too!)
