Peter Veldman, founder of Tire Rack, overcame many challenges to create a successful business. He was an impactful person in the South Bend, Indiana community, and a good friend of Better World Books. Since his passing in 2014, his family and Tire Rack decided to honor his legacy and share his amazing story with the publication of the book, Peter Veldman: Dutch Immigrant, American Entrepreneur.
The book follows Veldman from his young life in Holland when Germany Invaded to his post-World War II journey to the United States. He worked as a migrant laborer, served in Korea, returned briefly to Holland to marry the woman he loved and returned to America to work in a variety of industries including factories, dairy farming and service stations. Eventually, Veldman started an automotive service in South Bend, Indiana, that would eventually become Tire Rack. Veldman shared the story of how he went from a the eldest son of a humble farmer in Holland to an entrepreneurial success in his new country.
As friends of the Veldman family, Better World Books, is pleased to showcase this account of Peter Veldman’s life, entrepreneurship and commitment to giving back to his community. True to Veldman’s desire to give back, a portion of the funds from each sale of the book will go to The Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization providing educational support to spouses and children of America’s fallen and wounded soldiers.
