Room to Read founder nominated for World’s Children’s Prize

intro-roomtoreadWe’re thrilled to learn that John Wood and Room to Read (a long-time literacy partner of ours) have been nominated for the 2014 World’s Children’s Prize—often referred to as the Children’s Nobel Prize.

Other nominees this year are Malala Yousafzai of the Malala Fund and Indira Ranamagar of Prisoners Assistance Nepal.

The three WCP nominees are selected by children from 15 countries who have experienced the major challenges facing youth today—such as debt slavery and child soldier experiences—their vote will determine the final WCP recipient in October. From Room to Read’s press release:

“All three nominees will be honored at the Award Ceremony at Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred, Sweden, in October 2014, where H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden will help the children present the awards including USD$100,000 in prize money which are allocated to each of the three nominees.”

We’re proud to have Room to Read as one of our literacy partners, and as we celebrate their nomination we also cheer on our customers for supporting their efforts around the world simply by purchasing books at BetterWorldBooks.com.
