Better World Books Awards Ceremony 2014

intro-UK-awardsLast year we decided to do something different for our Christmas event. It was a bit of a gamble. Dinner and a dance has become a tradition over the years, but we were confident we could pull off a fantastic evening of celebration. Think red carpet (we had one!), think glitz and glam (everyone looked fantastic!), think Better World Books’ version of the Oscars!

There was a buzz in the air as the evening got underway. We were in the prestigious Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum. Among other things, Andrew Carnegie was a philanthropist who devoted much of his life to social and educational advancement. One of his greatest achievements was that he established public libraries throughout the UK, US and beyond.

We were in the perfect venue to celebrate the successes of the past 12 months and the teams and individuals who helped make them happen.  In 2014 we raised over £400,000 for literacy and libraries, impacting lives in the UK and around the world. We also ran our first Literacy and Education in Action Programme (LEAP) Grants, awarding £20,000 to 6 literacy projects.
