Roald Dahl, author of the famous darkly humorous children’s books along with several screenplays (did you know he did a Bond film?) and many short stories, was born on this day in 1916.

Rikki-Tikki-Tavi! Nag scared the bejezus out of me as a kid. I could never look under the bed at night because of him. I always wished I had a mongoose for a pet.

The BFG was my favorite! I love the bottled dreams and riding in the BFG’s ear. It’s all so nearly plausible in an entirely implausible sort of way.
MY two boys LOVED The twits, Esio Trot, Georges Marvellous medicine, The finger and Fanfastic Mr Fox-But i loved them too and when they were little and i was reading the bedtime story it was me saying ” Just one more page” and the kids were saying ” But mum-we want to go to sleep”
Everyone should grow up with a bit of Roald Dahl.
One of my fondest memories of Charlie & Choc Factory was my daughter reading it to me as I sewed a costume for her for school. I still consider it one of my favorite children’s books.
