Giving the Gift of Reading on World Book Day

Post by Fiona Marshall, Customer Care, Quality Assurance Manager and Social Media Guru for Better World Books UK

When I was at primary school World Book Day was a highlight of the year. It was fun and engaging, and the brightly coloured illustrations captured our imaginations. It made reading and owning books desirable.

Several years later (!) working for a socially responsible bookseller that actively engages in getting kids to read, World Book Day continues to Wow me! The organisers engage with schools, libraries and bookshops to promote reading amongst children and teenagers. Events in libraries will strengthen them as the hub of the community and a great source of books. On 1st March nursery, primary and secondary schools will hand out over 14 million £1 book tokens which can be exchanged in selected bookshops for one of eight exclusive books by authors like Jacqueline Wilson and Cressida Cowell. Over 14 million kids will receive a book this March as a result!

If you love the idea of giving books to kids, every book that you purchase from www.betterworldbooks.co.uk or www.betterworldbooks.com is matched with a donation to a child in need (we’ve donated over 6 million books to date). Your purchase can spark a lifetime of reading enjoyment for children around the world.

How are you celebrating World Book Day? We’d love to hear about it below.
