Better World Books joins with Scholastic to “Do Something”

Better World Books partnered with DoSomething.org to launch an Epic Book Drive to support the New Orleans Recovery School District post Hurricane Katrina. And it was epic! Over 250,000 books were collected by over 105,000 teens across the country as a part of the initiative.

DoSomething.org is one of the largest organizations in the US that helps young people rock causes they care about. They are a driving force in creating a culture of volunteerism. They inspire, empower and celebrate teenagers who recognize the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action.

Through a nationwide campaign, utilizing web, mobile, pop culture (Ludicris joined the effort! See his video above.) and the infrastructure of Better World Books, teens rallied to collect books to help support the New Orleans Recovery School District that was destroyed by the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

Better World Books facilitated the program by covering the inbound shipping of the material from the 105,000 teens across the country then receiving, sorting and selling any saleable items so a portion of the funds raised could be used to freight ship material into New Orleans.

Scholastic became a partner in the effort and contributed 1,000 brand new books as an extension of their Read and Rise program’s commitment to ensuring that all children have the opportunity to meet and exceed the educational challenges of the 21st century.

It was an epic effort by all involved especially the teens who were inspired to help. Better World Books believes in the power of knowledge by proudly supporting library, literacy and education initiatives through funding and book donations. With millions of dollars raised and millions of books donated to date – Better World Books supports causes locally and around the world.
