Better World Books Offers Carbon-Balanced Shipping

sustainable shippingCarbon dioxide emissions contribute to global warming, and the planes, trains and trucks that deliver your books are no exception. Carbon offsets provide a way for us to balance out these emissions.

At checkout, customers of Better World Books contribute pennies which are used annually to offset the carbon emissions caused by shipping.

Better World Books works with 3Degrees, a fellow certified B Corporation and organization who connects people with renewable energy and carbon offsets on a massive scale. They offer clients the opportunity to invest in innovative projects that have a positive environmental impact.

Better World Books supports green power and carbon reduction through the purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs) and carbon offsets to help improve our environmental footprint. We will use funds from fiscal year 2014 to support the McKinney Landfill Gas Destruction and Utilization project for carbon offsets and the RECs will support the Wind Power project from the Prairie Breeze facility in Nebraska.

The combined commitment of purchasing 2350 MWh of Green-e(R) Energy Certified RECs and 12703 of verified carbon offsets will help avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to growing 69,373 trees for 10 years or taking 564 cars off the road for one year!

So while supporting libraries, literacy and education through funding and donation is a key component of our business, so is supporting the environment by doing all we can to reduce our carbon footprint.

  1. This is brilliant, there are a lot of companies that are starting to do this. We’re all unlikely to stop shopping online any time soon, so we should move to make the logistics of shipping greeener
